Starting today you can pre-order the WandPi-8M and be one of the first to receive them as early as spring 2018. The WandbPi-8M community board family revolutionize and transforms IoT audio, voice and video interactions – Wandboard WAND-PI-8M. This board is based on the NXP i.MX8M Quad applications processor, ARM Cortex-A53 + M4 architecture and popular Pi (85 x 56 mm) form factor bringing 4K UltraHD with HDR video quality with pro audio fidelity. As the processing capabilities increase, the complexity and scope of the development of innovative embedded systems becomes more challenging. Prior to today, there weren’t any viable processing solutions that specifically addressed voice, video and audio requirements. With that in mind, Wandboard is announcing the WAND-PI-8M board family based on the NXP i.MX8M applications processor, an exact solution to embedded community’s specific A/V and versatility needs.

Designed to meet increasing audio and video system requirements
The WAND-PI-8M boards are based on the NXP’s i.MX8M Quad processor, that features four ARM Cortex-A53 and M4 cores, flexible memory options and high-speed connectivity interfaces. The processor also sports full 4K UltraHD resolution and HDR video quality, the highest levels of pro audio fidelity. The WAND-PI-8M family is tailored to streaming video devices, streaming audio devices, voice control applications, voice assistance, digital signage and scalable HMI solutions.
40-pin Expansion Header
The board features one 40-pin Expansion header that adds extremely rich connectivity and expansion options with UART, SPI, I²C, PWM and GPIO signaling.
4K UltraHD and HDR
The integrated graphic engine, Vivante GC7000Lite, supports 4K UltraHD and HDR video capabilities. 3840 x 2160 resolution graphics are opening customers eyes to rich, superbly detailed worlds at a time where previous generation systems struggle to run at modest resolutions. The extra detail is jaw-dropping, but the biggest overall benefit of 4K is the massive increase in PPD (Pixels Per Degree of Vision). According to the scientific research results, an eye in good working order can distinguish up to 50 PPD, taking into account the amount of pixels per inch of screen, and the distance of the viewer from it. The WAND-PI-8M can render images in resolutions that crank the PPD almost all the way up to that number. This tight grouping of pixels per degree of vision helps textures appear more realistic, makes text, numbers and objects amazingly sharp and defined, and makes individual pixels nigh on indistinguishable. Scientifically, human eyes begin to believe that the rendered images are as real as the real world. In addition, Vivante GC7000Lite graphic engine supports HDR rendering, also known as high-dynamic-range lighting, which stands for rendering of computer graphics scenes by using lighting calculations done in high dynamic range (HDR). This allows preservation of details that may be lost due to limiting contrast ratios. In other words, bright things can be really bright, dark things can be really dark, and details can be seen in both.
Open source software and hardware
Wandboard community boards always come with open source code and binary images that are easily accessible, not hidden behind sing up pages or passwords. Wandboard as always stands for frictionless access to boards’ specifications, design guides and schematics at launch.
